Recycling History and Philosophy

In 1983, Ark Regional Services identified recycling as a unique employment opportunity for people with intellectual disabilities. By assisting people with the unloading and sorting of their recyclables, people with disabilities develop customer service skills and have meaningful interactions with members of the Laramie community. In addition to these skills, people also have opportunities to gain skills in:

In 1990, through generous funding and partnerships with civic groups, granting organizations and state agencies, we were able to expand our recycling services. This expansion, which was completed in 1992, allows us to collect recyclables from not only Laramie, but from communities throughout Wyoming, Northern Colorado, and Eastern Nebraska. We also have numerous collection bins located throughout the City of Laramie, which are used by residents of the City of Laramie and Albany County.

The Recycling Center, which is permitted by the Wyoming Department of Environmental Quality, includes a 63,000 square foot lot with a 10,000 square foot building for processing materials. The equipment is designed with a maximum capacity of up to 15 tons/hour, and can process up to 100 tons of material per day. Ark Recycling Services is the largest recycling enterprise in Wyoming.
